Buzy, just a peek!

Life has been very buzy, but here is just a peek at what I've been working on. I know I have missed 2 of my self-imposed deadlines, but it couldn't be helped. As soon as I figure out Etsy, I will list a few things there. Also, I'm doing a christmas art journal again with d'blogala this time. Journaling around and about Christmas did really seem to help with the Christmas Blues. We may be off to Florida for Thanksgiving, but the kitchen isn't finished yet. We'll see what happens. Enjoy!

The animals are characters in children's books, my husband, Art, and I are writing at this moment

Landscapes are painted from a variety of inspiration, on location, sketches, photos, and even memory. The Tennessee landscape is just starting to feel familiar after living here for 10 years. Maybe that's beacuse we haven't traveled at all this year. I am originally from Maine and I travel to Florida a lot, so I have quite a lot of visual memory of those places. When I only have time for a quick pencil sketch on location, the paintings would be finished in the studio with the help of the sketches and photos.

The abstract paintings come from experiements, I am happy with. They are a way for me to try new things, either colors, techniques, etc. and to grow. They don't fit into any particular style, but they always have my color palette and my mark making.

Plans Change

They say make plans and listen for God to chuckle, because he has better plans for you. We have a unexpected family event towards the end of October, so I will set a new goal for myself of November 1,2009 to have my Etsy store open. In the meantime, here's a peak at what I plan (see above :) ) to be selling.

Knitting for baby Mango

My good friend, Anna, is having a baby, which Art has named Mango. Mango being the 1st baby close to us in a long, long time (all nieces & nephews are grown), I've been knitting up a storm. It's fun to make these sweet baby boy things in my favorite colors that Anna picked for Mango's room.

Hawaii Vision Journal & Starfish Shadow Box

Above is a Starfish Shadowbox I made yesterday, while Art talked to Juan Carlos via Skype. As I gathered my shadowbox &materials, I debated how to best hold the starfish to the back of the shadowbox, as I wandered around my studio(Art was Skyping in my studio so Juan Carlos could see me walking back & forth). Juan Carlos said I appeared to pick at things just like a hen in a barnyard looking for food. Interestingly, Juan Carlos observation sheds more light onto my working process. Usually, I start with one idea & add to it repeatably until I feel finished. For me deciding a piece is finished when there is a pleasing connection throughout every part of the painting with all parts of the piece coming together to make a whole.

I thought the Aloha Tower painting posted on Monday, June 15th, was finished, but it didn't have enough color especially for my image of Hawaii. Being somewhat intimated to ruin my previous work, I started small with coloring the word 'together' with a bright purple pen. Then, continued to spread the purple around & I was off comparing & creating for another whole morning.

I just love the picture above, it just seems so quiet & peaceful in a tropical place. to me
